ARTECH·TALK | Mark Clampin + Nicola Fox | Webb’s Revelations: the Promise of Roman and the Search for Habitable Worlds

image description

Join Drs. Mark Clampin and Nicola “Nicki” Fox as they delve into a topic that captivates many: the search for habitable worlds across the universe.

As the Astrophysics Division Director in the Science Mission Directorate at NASA HQ and the Director of the Goddard Space Flight Center, respectively, Clampin and Lystrup are pivotal in advancing our understanding of how the universe works, how we arrived here, and in exploring the question, “Are we alone?”

Dr. Mark Clampin is the Astrophysics Division Director in the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The goals of the Astrophysics Division include understanding how the universe functions, deciphering our origins, and addressing the question, “Are we alone?” Until August 2022, Dr. Clampin served as the Director of the Sciences and Exploration Directorate (SED) at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). There, he led the Astrophysics, Solar System, Heliophysics, and Earth Science Divisions, along with the high-performance computing office.

As the Associate Administrator (AA) for the Science Mission Directorate, Dr. Nicola Fox directs ~100 NASA missions to explore the secrets of the universe – missions that use the view from space to assess questions as practical as hurricane formation, as enticing as the prospect of lunar resources, as amazing as behavior in weightlessness, and as profound as the origin of the universe. She is responsible for fostering an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere and supporting a diverse team of space scientists and engineers around the country. As the AA, Dr. Fox creates a balanced portfolio of carefully chosen missions and research goals to enable a deep scientific understanding of Earth, other planets, the Sun, and the universe. These efforts lay the intellectual foundation for the robotic and human expeditions of the future, while meeting today’s needs for scientific information to address national concerns.
