Time and Tide explores the ocean as a living record of movement, change, and time.
Grounded in direct field research, the exhibition draws from nearly two decades of scuba diving, underwater observation and documentation, scientific collaboration, and engagement with divers, activists, and communities connected to marine environments. The work moves from the intertidal zone through coral reefs and into portions of the mesophotic – the underwater worlds that can still be physically experienced and observed by the human body.
Through painting, sculpture, photography, lenticular works, and installation, evidence gathered in the field is transformed into an abstract visual language of color, pattern, movement, light, and scale. Abstraction becomes another way of seeing the natural world: a way to amplify structures and relationships that might otherwise pass unnoticed.,
Time and Tide contemplates what we can learn by looking closely and returning over time. The ocean is never still. It carries traces of what came before while continually forming what comes next. We have so much to learn from it.
