Community Focus: Dibia DREAM

Each month at ARTECHOUSE Miami partners with a different non-profit in the city for the month, donating a portion of ticket sale proceeds to the organization. Our charity partner this August is Dibia DREAM.
Dibia DREAM’s mission is to foster life skills development through blended STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education for underserved youth, specifically low-income students of color, in Miami and New Orleans.
Since 2014, Dibia DREAM has served more than 7,000 youth. Its after school program DREAM Academy is a blended, STEAM and sports-based afterschool youth development program with a culturally competent curriculum that provides homework assistance, develops positive behaviors, and drives improved student outcomes in reading, writing, math, science, health, and art.
DREAM Academy positively impacts students and families through a strong model of inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impact. By creating an accessible and engaging afterschool program for students in Miami (input), 600 students participate in STEM and life skills development opportunities they would otherwise not have access to. Students develop skills and knowledge that will drive them to academic success, promising careers, and healthy lives. This includes increased academic achievement, particularly in STEM subjects. The long-term impact is felt in traditionally disadvantaged Miami communities, like North Miami, Homestead, Liberty City, Miami Gardens and Overtown, where local students gain access to new opportunities and experiences that positively impact their life trajectories.
Another exciting program they host is STEM Saturdays. This program transforms community centers around Miami-Dade County into intergenerational “Incubators of Excellence” by engaging the community ages 7 and up in an array of weekend STEM activities at no cost to participants. STEM Saturday “Incubators” host widely publicized events where all participants – parents, teachers, community volunteers and/or corporate volunteers – engage in fun, and educational activities that explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Throughout the month of August, 20% of the ticket sales booked through this link will be donated directly to Dibia DREAM. (Valid from August 1-31, 2019.)

Our Perfect Summer Day in the Heights
At ARTECHOUSE Houston, we’re proud to call the Heights home. While Houston is filled with world-class attractions and iconic destinations, some of the city’s best experiences are found a little off the beaten path—in the independent shops, neighborhood restaurants, artist studios, music venues, and gathering places that give our community its character. The Heights has become one of Houston’s most vibrant and walkable neighborhoods, where creativity, culture, and local businesses thrive side by side. Whether you’re visiting Houston for the first time or you’re a local looking to rediscover your city, these are some of our favorite places to spend a summer day exploring the neighborhood we love.
